After what feels like a lifetime of mayhem, Simon Ellice returns to the Hampshire village where he grew up. He enjoys the solace and tranquility of rural life, working on a farm and getting to know the lively locals, but suddenly Simon walks right into a deadly mystery. Old friends are going missing and then turning up dead. Someone from the City is spreading their evil tentacles and Si dives into London’s underworld to uncover a conspiracy of poisoning, murder and pagan ritual that threatens those closest to him.
Sometimes the worst situations are waiting for you when you are relaxed at home. If you don’t believe me, you should ask Simon Ellice, who has returned home after a while and is now trying to enjoy the non-busy farmer’s life. But, as you can expect it will not be as peaceful as he hopes and he can’t stay away to investigate why some of his old friends are appearing dead.
This is one of those books that you don’t know who to trust or believe, there seems to be someone pulling the strings for their own benefit, but whom and why now?
The story is addictive and original, you can’t stop turning pages to discover more about Simon and who is hurting his friends, but remember that it will not be easy and he will have to visit London’s dark side if he wants to reveal all the truth. I loved the dark humor that the author put in the story. It made me laugh hard so many times! This is the fourth book of the Simon Ellice series, you can read it as standalone, but I am sure you’ll want to read the previous ones too!
