Smoke Screen by Thomas Enger & Jorn Lier Horst, Oslo, New Year’s Eve. The annual firework celebration is rocked by an explosion and the city is put on terrorist alert.
Police officer Alexander Blix and blogger Emma Ramm are on the scene, and when a severely injured survivor is pulled from the icy harbour, she is identified as the mother of two-year-old Patricia Semplass, who was kidnapped on her way home from kindergarten ten years earlier … and never found.
Blix and Ramm join forces to investigate the unsolved case, as public interest heightens, the terror threat is raised, and it becomes clear that Patricia’s disappearance is not all that it seems…
This is not my first book by Thomas Enger and I can assure you it will not be the last one!
The books are always complex, with multiple stories and always with a personal touch, don’t get me wrong, they are not easy themes to read, he writes about difficult situations and moments in history, but this only makes the books more realistic and more easy to enter into them.
This book is not an exception, mixing the fear we all have for a terrorist attack with a kidnaping case from a long time ago… Because now, when you listen to an explosion you don’t think an accident, the first thought is terrorism, sad but true. And tell me, what parent has no fear of losing their children in the park or the supermarket? Can you imagine finding her 10 years later?
Yes, as you can see this will not be an easy case for our special partners, Alexander and Emma. A detective and a blogger… yes, they are not the usual detectives we are used to, but believe me, their work together is impeccable and their different jobs makes the story more unusual.
This is an addictive read, it’s not the first book of the series, but believe me, you will not feel lost but I would recommend you start from the beginning, from how this strange couple start working together, the case is worth the read!
I am becoming addicted to Nordic series, the tempo is more lyrical and atmospheric, you could feel the emotions on your skin and become involved easily with the plot.
If you need something to disconnect during this half term, take this book, perfect to keep your mind occupied and keep you awake all night, is this addictive, believe me!
